Annual reminder for water well owners to take action to protect their water supply

The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) and WellOwner.org have announced that Protect Your Groundwater Day will be held on Sept. 3, 2025.

This annual event raises awareness about the importance of proper maintenance and testing of water wells, encouraging nationwide participation in protecting groundwater. The NGWA recommends that private water systems be inspected annually by certified water well contractors to ensure they provide safe, healthy water.

As part of Protect Your Groundwater Day, NGWA and WellOwner.org are urging the public, and especially private well owners, to take simple steps to ensure their drinking water is safe and healthy. To make it easy to remember, they are promoting ACT: Acknowledge, Consider, Take Action.

Acknowledge: Recognize the causes of preventable groundwater contamination.

Consider: Identify which risks apply to your business or household.

Take Action: Implement steps to protect your water, including water testing and well and septic system maintenance.
